Rowan's Law - Mandatory Acknowledgement Form prior to Participation For 2019 - 2020 Season For All CMHA Registered Players

This is an urgent update regarding the legislative requirements under the implementation of Rowan’s Law by the Government of Ontario.

OHF has asked to forward this important information to all OMHA Center Mailing to all our Association and League contacts.

This has become a mandatory requirement brought into law by the Ontario Government.  Without a signed Acknowledgement Form on file with the CMHA no registered player with will be allowed to play or be rostered with the OMHA on any CMHA Team.

What is Rowan’s Law?

Rowan Stringer was a 17-year old Ottawa varsity rugby player who died from sustaining multiple concussions resulting in a catastrophic swelling of the brain – second impact syndrome.  On March 7, 2018, Ontario passed Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 and related amendments to the Education Act. However, it is important to understand that this applies to all Sport Organizations, schools, programs and businesses in the province.  This is not a hockey ‘thing’ – it is legislation (Ontario Regulation 161/19) from the Government of Ontario.   Attached to this email are the documents included in the OMHA centre mailing links found in the email below. Please read the information below on Rowan's Law and the legislative requirements:

Please review the age appropriate resource that can be found under the ROWAN'S LAW Tab on the CMHA Website with your child. Read the information and then complete the OHF Rowans Law Acknowledgement Form.

Representative Players must have acknowledgement forms completed and returned to your Head Coaches.  It is the responsibility of the Coaches to collect team Acknowledgement Forms and hand the completed forms in one envelope into the the CMHA Office/Vp Rep/ in a clearly labeled envelope to be filed.  The OHF will be conducting an audit process throughout the year to ensure compliance.

House League players parents/guardians are asked to complete the form and submit to your Coach who will then be responsible to hand in the Acknowledgement forms to their Represented Convenor.  All Convernors will need to hand acknowledgement forms to the VP House League Board Executive to be filed in the CMHA Office.

IT IS MANDATORY PRIOR TO ROSTERING THE PLAYERS ON A TEAM THAT EACH PLAYER'S (PARENT/GUARDIAN) PROVIDES A COMPLETED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Looking for gently used equipment?  Has your player/goalie out grown their equipment? No longer playing?  Turn your equipment into CASH!!!

Dear Members:

With hockey being so expensive and wanting to keep costs as low as possible so families can afford to keep their kids in the game, Orangeville came up with the equipment consignment sale 4 years ago. It has been such a success being able to fit kids almost from head to toe for less then $200.00.  They have had equipment for kids as young as 4 years old who are just starting out up to adults needing equipment so they can get back in the game. The equipment drop-off will be held at the Alder Street arena and the equipment sale takes place at Jungle Oasis. The Sale is Cash only.  Read More
