Dear Players and Parents,

As a coach with Caledon Minor Hockey, I’d like to welcome you to a season of opportunity, challenge, and fun.

Our B-level program is for athletes who are ready to push themselves, work hard, and develop both as hockey players and as teammates. If your child has the desire to compete and grow, this is the place for them.

My coaching philosophy is centered around creating a positive, structured, and inclusive environment where players can thrive. That means emphasizing skill development, fostering teamwork, and keeping the love of the game alive. I want players to leave each practice and game feeling like they’ve learned something, improved in some way, and most importantly, had fun doing it.

We will follow Hockey Canada’s player development model, which balances individual technical skills, team tactics, and strategic play. Every athlete will be coached to push their limits and strive for their personal best. That means full effort in practice, focus during games, and mutual respect both on and off the ice.

When it comes to playing time, I want to be clear: equal play is not always equal, especially at the competitive level. My responsibility is to put players in situations that will challenge them and help the team succeed. However, I am committed to ensuring fair opportunity all players will be given chances to contribute and grow throughout the season, including in key game situations. I also believe in investing extra time in players who need support to gain confidence and close development gaps.

This is more than just a hockey team it’s a place for kids to set goals, learn discipline, build friendships, and create memories that last a lifetime. Whether your child is new to competitive hockey or ready to take the next step, we’re here to support their journey and spark their love for the game. I welcome everyone to try out, It takes guts and passion to show up, put in the work, and compete.

If you didn’t make the team you expected this season, please understand: this is just one moment in your hockey journey, not the end of it. Many successful players were once cut from teams what sets them apart is their decision to keep working, improving, and believing in themselves. If you love the game, keep playing, keep practicing, and don’t let that moment define your future. There are still great competitive teams at each level of hockey and this does not define the level of skill your child has.

Use this experience as fuel. Every stride you take on the ice, every hour you spend building your skills, gets you closer to your goals. Come to these tryouts more prepared, more confident, and more determined than ever.

Never give up. Hockey rewards those who stay the course.

Sincerely,
Mike Louro
