  • Recap
The Caledon Hawks Bantam AA team had a lot to be grateful for this thanksgiving. The team participated in the Best of the Best Halton Hills Hockey tournament and brought home the tournament cup!  The teamwas a little sluggish in their first game against the LaSalle Sabres and lost 4-1 with only one goal in the third by Chris Sharples.  The team’s second game on Friday, against the Tecumseh Eagles, was a resounding 7-1 win with goals by Peter Szakaczki, Chris Sharples, Matthew Viool, Noah Crispo, Jordan Calvano for 2, and Evan Gilchrist. A full team effort!  Only one game was played Saturday night against the Mississauga Jets with a shut out by goalie Keven Wilks and goals by Gabriel Smith, Evan Gilchrist, Lucas Pilolli and Luke Valade. The chant of the day by the boys on Sunday was “Win and IN” The first game Sunday morning was against the Jr Cougars with Gabe Smith scoring two goals, then the Jr. Cougars coming back to score 2 goals in the third to tie the game. With 6.6 seconds left in the game Evan Gilchrist scores to win the game 3-2 and advance to the semi’s.  The Hawks faced Centre Wellington in the semi’s. James Hume scored with Centre Wellington scoring back. At the end of the third the game was tied! No scoring in the first 3 minute overtime. Hawks players Owen Nurse scored on a pass from defenceman Matthew Viool to win the game  in the second overtime and advance to the finals.  With only an hour between games the Hawks faced the Cumberland Jr Grads in the Finals. The Hawks while tired came out to win and quickly scored two goals in the first by the same players, Evan Gilchrist making amazing passes to Luke Valade’s hot stick! In the second period, Cumberland came back to score a goal.  In the third Peter Szakaczki scored with a beauty shot and Evan Gilchrist sealed the deal with an empty net goal!  So in the midst of turkey, stuffing, family and friends the Caledon Hawks Bantam AA team played, six games in three days and thanks to 6.6 seconds and a double overtime win, went on to win the Best of the Best Tournament!
