RE: Update on 2020-2021 Season Programming

As previously communicated, the 2020-2021 Hockey Season was undertaken looking very different from prior seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We had previously outlined our return to hockey plan for the season (this is available on our website), but due to recent orders imposed by The  Province of Ontario on Friday October 9, 2020, which have returned all of Peel Region to a Modified Stage 2 of COVID protocols we have now had to pivot and alter our plan to align with these orders for a minimum of the next 28 days. The most significant change impacts the number of skaters we are permitted to have on the ice, which is now 10, where it was previously 30.

Furthermore, we were instructed that the maximum number of attendees inside the arena, including on the ice is 10 (i.e. 9 players and a coach).

We have discussed with the Town and we are able to have 10 people on the ice and one additional member/parent/trainer onsite in the arena but away from those on the ice to assist with skates etc.  Currently, we are not allowed parents in to assist all the kids or to watch.

The current plan is as follows and will continue until at least Sunday November 8, 2020 or until we are informed that we can return to Stage 3 or increase the number of people allowed in the arena.

·         All Tier 1 and Tier 2 participants are receiving 2 hours of ice per week

·         Attempt to introduce 3rd party instruction to the Tier 2 program and continue working on Tier 1 Development where possible.

·         No additional cost at this time (our costs have grown significantly due to the extra ice required to have skaters in groups of 9 + 1 coach)

·         Groups will be a maximum of 10 on ice (this may be 9 + 1 coach, 8 + 2 coaches etc.) and will vary depending on how many kids are in the group and how much ice we are able to facilitate.

·         We will always have at least 2 adults in the rink with the kids.

·         One parent MAY be allowed in to tie skates if needed.  This may not be possible at all rinks or at all times.

Note that during this 28-day period, no spectators will be permitted in the arena.

All other regulations regarding arena use remain in place.

We understand that this is a challenging time for all members and their families and we are working hard to offer the best program we can safely offer.

We understand that this plan may not work for all of our members and  thus we have also updated our cancellation policy:

·         Cancellations made prior to 11:59PM on Sunday October 18, 2020 will receive a 100% refund.  We will waive the usual administration fee.

·         Cancellations made between October 19, 2020 and November 30, 2020 will receive a refund of the fee paid less 25% and a $75 administration fee.

·         Cancellations made after November 30, 2020 will not receive any refund.

·         However, if for any reason a cancellation occurs due to factors beyond our control (i.e. Provincial or Regional Mandate) we will follow the guidance of Hockey Canada and the OHF regarding refunds at that time.

·         Note that all attempts will be made to issue refunds in a timely manner.

If you have any questions, please contact a CMHA executive member.  We will know more in the coming weeks, but we will be considering all options to try and recoup some of the lost ice time that these changes have caused.  Further explanation of those efforts will be made in upcoming communications, but our goal is to offer a safe hockey program that not only provides value to our members but focuses on development of our hockey players.

Thank you for your continued patience during this challenging time.
