2024-25 Coach Survey

CMHA will soon be accepting REP coaching applications for the 2025-2026 season. This coach survey is voluntary and anonymous, but you can include your name in the space provided if you choose. The feedback provided in the survey responses will be compiled by VP Rep and shared with the coach selection committee. Please remember that our coaches are volunteers. The honest, respectful and constructive information you provide will help assess these volunteer coaches, and also set the expectations for future CMHA coaches. Similar to the system used in the past, team managers have been issued “Individual Codes” for each player. One survey code is issued per family, per team. Any code used more than once will result in discarded surveys.

Preparation:

Was the coach adequately prepared for tryouts, on and off ice activities, practices and games throughout the season?

Is the coach effective in preparing support staff for practices and games?

Does the coach make full and effective use of practice ice time?

How might the coach improve on practice and/or game preparation in your opinion?

Communication:

Were the goals and expectations of the players and team clearly communicated and reinforced throughout the season?

Was the coach able to handle delivering the players both positive and constructive feedback in an appropriate manner?

Does the coach demonstrate appropriate behaviour and self control with players, parents, and officials in tense or challenging circumstances?

How could the coach improve on communicating with the team and/or parents in your opinion?

Instruction:

Is the coach able to teach skills and coach progression in skills and strategy at the level required to improve the team?

Was on and off ice instruction delivered clearly, effectively and in an age appropriate manner?

Is the coach able to adjust to more basic instruction or elevate to more advanced instruction when needed?

Are the goalies being supported and instructed during practice?

How might the coach improve on instruction for the entire team, parts of the team or with individual players on the team?

Team function:

Were player roles clearly defined or were players asked to fill varying roles/positions through the season?

Were players rewarded or disciplined for certain behaviours or for on ice performance?

Was a leadership group for the team identified?

Were these processes handled appropriately?

Are you satisfied with the team schedule?

Did the coach create an overall positive environment that encouraged player involvement and team improvement?

Staff:

Do the other members of the coaching staff contribute positively to the team?

Does the coach rely on other staff in making team decisions?

Did the coaching staff work well together?
