Pee Wee AE Wins big again in Grimsby!
Pee Wee AE Wins Big - Again!

The Pee Wee AE team had another championship weekend!  On Sunday, October 14th, the team won their second tournament of the year at the Adam Keunen Memorial Classic in Grimsby, ON.

The boys earned a spot in the semi-finals by defeating the Windsor Jr. Spitfires 8-0, and the Milton Winterhawks Blue 1-0 on Friday.  They finished the round robin with a disappointing 3-1 loss to West London on Saturday, placing them second in their pool.

The semi-final match on Sunday, pitted the Hawks against the undefeated Barrie Colts.  The game was tied 1-1 after regulation time, forcing Caledon into sudden-death overtime.  After a 4-on-4 overtime period, and then a 3-on-3 overtime period during which Caledon fought off penalties and faced injuries, the score was still 1-1.   Tournament rules dictated the game would be resolved in a shoot-out, five shots for each team.  Josh Scarpelli started the Hawks off well by scoring on the Colts while Brody Meyer kept the lead alive with an outstanding save in net keeping the Colts puck out of the net. Captain, Michael Mihalaros, built the lead to 2 when he scored on the Hawks’ second shot.  Again Meyer held fast in net to maintain the lead.  The third Caledon shooter, Alexander Edwards, pocketed a third goal for Caledon putting pressure on Barrie to score or lose.  Despite their best efforts, the Colts could not get by Brody Meyer, and the Hawks won the game 4-1, giving them a place in the finals.

The championship game saw the Hawks up against West London once again.  London took an early lead in the first period, but Caledon hung in and evened it up.  The second period saw the  Hawks take the lead scoring a second goal, and then within less than a minute scoring a third to win the game 3-1.
Congratulations to the team and their coaches for an outstanding weekend!
