Hawks win opening game of OMHA finals
Caledon Midget AA Hawks opened the OMHA championship series at Caledon East Arena with 3 -1 victory.

The exciting game against the Whitby Wildcats featured end to end action, stellar goaltending and solid team play by both sides.

The home partisans urged the black, red, and white Hawks into a first period lead. A nice feed from behind the net resulted in the puck deposited into the net and a one goal lead.

This carried the teams into the second period when what looked like a routine shot from the corner was directed into the corner of the net and the Hawks found themselves in front by a pair.

The visiting crowd got a chance for a cheer of their own as the Wildcats tallied late in the frame to bring the score to 2 - 1.

A late Hawk penalty carried over into the third the Hawks used their top notch penalty kill to keep the score in their favour.

Keeping their composure under a sustained attack the Hawks turned the tables when with 25 seconds remaining, and the Wildcats net empty, a rebound from the end boards came to the front of the goal and the empty netter sealed the Hawk victory.

The teams will enjoy a nine day March break with game two to be played at McKinney Arena in Whitby on 17 March at 900. pm

Game three slated for 18 March at 1130 am at Caledon East Arena.
