CMHA Volunteer Training Policy

An effective network of volunteers is essential to ensure the success our association. The CMHA requires volunteers that are qualified to lead and mentor our members. This is a fundamental building block critical to the successful operation and long term viability of our organization. The CMHA will ensure it acts in a way that will foster growth and development of those who will lead our membership into the future.

It is a goal of the CMHA to ensure all volunteers are trained to meet, or exceed, standards set out by the OMHA. Properly trained volunteers will help ensure the best experience for our members. All team officials including bench staff, on ice helpers, and team administrators must obtain the appropriate level of certification. This is mandated by OMHA Regulations and will help ensure the safety and well-being of our members, as well as efficient operation of our association.

CMHA policy is to have the roster of each team completed with competent motivated staff. This staff must be certified with all appropriate designations required. Bench staff credentials, where possible, should overlap in the event of schedule conflicts so that qualified staff is available for all events. The CMHA will cover the cost of initial certification, or re-certification, to ensure this happens (email receipt to the hockey office at [email protected] by January 31st of that season). The CMHA will be responsible for the cost of one certification per volunteer on the official roster as well as on/off ice helpers as deemed appropriate by CMHA representatives in charge.
